When did mediocrity become acceptable?

These are direct quotes from someone I work with:

“I’m tired of elitist, smug, high-and-mighty attitudes. Typical, but unwelcome. This country was not founded by the elitist unfortunately.”

“Biden: “yeah, that’s true, BUT, you know…blah blah blah…” Palin: “Energy is the answer to everyone’s problems.” At least its consistent.”

When did trying to elect the best and brightest become a bad thing?  Why is being consistently stupid better than being able acknowledge another persons point of view.

I have become so angry during this election I have to stop paying attention. I’ll cast my vote on election day, but until then I’m putting blinders on.
